Thread: How many of you use Shazam?

Default How many of you use Shazam?

I finally got a smartphone recently so now I can try and ID tunes whenever I want! I used to have to borrow a family member's tablet or smartphone to use shazam. It feels great now that I can use shazam whenever I want

I don't understand why they haven't made shazam a priority for desktop market yet. Well, they've at least started, but only for Windows 8.

Anyway, do any of you guys use shazam to help with your IDs? If not I highly recommend that you do! It's a great piece of technology. And I think that's where the future is heading. Automated, database driven audio recognition software. But for all the other tunes that aren't in the shazam database, that's where tuneid comes in. Those really rare and obscure records that only a small amount of people are aware of.

Youtube also uses some audio recognition software behind the scenes. That's how they're able to catch copywritten works being used without permission. To take advantage of this technology to identify IDs, I uploaded all of my IDs a year or two ago to a dummy youtube account. If youtube finds that any of the audio clips have a match, it will tell you the name of the artist, title, and publisher. You just have to manually check your copyright status section every now and then to see if there's been any matches. Speaking of this, that reminds me, I'm going to log into that account and see if there are any matches!

There are some things that shazam catches that youtube doesn't, and vice versa. So they're both tools to use for solving IDs. Any other pieces of technology you guys use to solve IDs?
Do you know any of these Oakenfold IDs (1985-1999)?

Shazam solved a 20 year unknown from Lee Gee at Fantazia NYE for me recently... Mainly as the tune was re-released in 2007 but I didn't know that...

yep I used shazam (can't believe it knows (DJ excel - just when you thought it was safe) more people should use it before asking for ids (save us lot searching)

I'm going to have to give all my IDs another try with Shazam soon. I'm overdue for a check on all of them via that app! It's ID'd quite a few tunes for me.

hi there Eric ive been using Shazam for a while, seems they are adding to their database all the time, tracks I tried ages ago and got a blank are now being picked up by shazam.

its great for spotting IDs on Strictly Rhythm or Guerilla they must have all their back catalog in their database.

ive also just downloaded Soundhound, very similar to Shazam

one of the longest unknowns got ID'd by use of Shazam.

it was the Lee Gee tune from Fantazia NYE91. Loads of threads --- kudos to Trash for utilising it.

like brady said, it seems an on-going process with them --- something not there today -- might be there tomorrow.

it's unlikely they'll ever catch everything -- which is why tuneid is really the aficionado of tune id'ing.

Anyone still using Shazam? How's it running on Windows 10? I know it's possible to install it, but I've heard it doesn't run well. But that was a while ago.

    it works perfect

you need to install Bluestacks first (an Android emulator for PC) then install the android version of shazam to your PC (running it through Bluestacks).

I uploaded this youtube video a while ago, the download links are in the description -
