Such a long shot......

I don't have a sample and don't have a clear memory of what the track was however......

.....a few days ago a local radio station played a track which consisted of a female vocal, quite high pitched with an occasional drum pattern coming in and out. It is likely an old band as I instantly recognised the track and would love to own it however I could not grab a recording as I was driving. Was the kind of track that would go well in a early bmx mix.

Im guessing an old rock band of some sort....

Any suggestions?

I suggest checking the website of that radio station. The majority of popular radio stations have playlists and some even record their shows for playback/streaming via their website.
That's what I do when I'm driving and hear a tune I like. I make a mental note of the time I hear the song and a note of the station I heard it on. When I get home I go online and look it up.
